Trees Care

You typically do want to let any apple bonsai soil dry out completely. They especially require plenty of water when fruiting.

Look to repot every couple of years in most cases. Either in spring after they're done flowering or early fall.
The tree should be in a big container with drainage holes given their need for room for root development. Most apple bonsai do well in free draining soil.

Common Crab Apple Bonsai Varieties

The Halls crab apple has pink flowers, shiny leaves, and purple fruit which may not be abundant.

The Nagasaki crab apple is the most popular apple bonsai. It has white flowers that have pink buds. This is followed by red fruit in the fall.

While the Toringo crab apple has up to seven leaves with white flowers that produce yellow fruit.
