Four More Buttonwood
Bonsai Care Tips

FEEDING: Feed it Miracid 30-10-10 at the rate of 1/4 teaspoon to a gallon of water. Miracid will slightly acidifies the soil. Peat added to your soil mix will also do that.

Feeding routine. Feed Monday thru Friday and then use plain water on the weekends to flush out any accumulated salts. The only time to cut back on feeding is in the fall when temperatures dip before bringing it indoors.

REPOTTING: The key point to remember about repotting is buttonwoods wilt after every repotting.
To help them over the shock, keep them warm, moist and you might even stick them in a large plastic bag. Using that as a form of ICU. Keep them out of sun for a couple of weeks. Some place their repotted buttonwoods under misters and/or shade cloth to reduce transpiration further.

WIRING: Some find wiring hard to do. You have to approach it while the branch is still green. Then as it hardens off it will hold its shape. Also attempt, as much as possible, to shape by pruning rather than wiring.

LIGHTING: Lots of strong light. For natural light indoors go with the southeast and west exposure. You can also keep them on a porch.
